Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Environmental Health and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (NCEH/ATSDR)
The NCEH/ATSDR are offering a paid 10-week summer internship program for students who are passionate about the environment, interested in human health, and curious about how they are linked. The program runs from June 12 to August 16, 2013 and a stipend of $600 a week will be paid. Eligibility requirements are US citizenship or permanent resident (with green card), full time enrollment at a college or university as a rising junior or rising senior by fall 2013 and minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. West Virginia University Center for Neuroscience has 12 Summer Undergraduate Research internships. Accepted students will have the opportunity to participate in an intensive and enjoyable research experience. The WVU Center for Neuroscience supports broad-based research across over 40 laboratories housed in modern research facilities. The center offers state-of-the-art technical capabilites and techniques such as genomics, non-linear optical microscopy, transgenic animal and microarray facilities, three-dimensional tissue analysis, and human neuroimaging using high field MRI and combined PET/CT imaging. The SURI program will run from May 28 - July 29, 2013. Online applications will be accepted from students currently enrolled at a college or university in the U.S. who have completed their 2nd or 3rd year. Preference will be givn to those with strong background in biology, neuroscience, physics, chemistry, engineering, or psychology, with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Sloan-Kettering Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences sponsors a 10-week research program for outstanding undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing a career in biomedically related sciences. Each year, the Department of Chemistry offers undergraduate students opportunities to work on an independent research project with a faculty mentor. These are paid positions that are supported through faculty research grants or through other funds available through the Department. I encourage you to meet with Chemistry faculty to discuss research possibilities in their laboratories, both in the summer and during the school year. If you are curious about the research being done in the Department, several faculty will be describing their research at PDS on Tuesday, March 13, in Mendel 101. I also suggest speaking with your classmates and with our graduate students about the research they are doing. Applications for summer undergraduate research should be completed with a faculty mentor and returned to the Chemistry office by Friday, March 23, 2012; all faculty have an electronic copy of the form. Awards will be announced during the first week of April and the number of awards will depend on funding available. A limited number of room and board awards will be available as well.
