Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Environmental Health and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (NCEH/ATSDR)

The NCEH/ATSDR are offering a paid 10-week summer internship program for students who are passionate about the environment, interested in human health, and curious about how they are linked.   The program runs from June 12 to August 16, 2013 and a stipend of $600 a week will be paid.   Eligibility requirements are US citizenship or permanent resident (with green card), full time enrollment at a college or university as a rising junior or rising senior by fall 2013 and minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.   Application deadline is January 30, 2013.   For an application visit the website:   For more information, please email Jay Nielsen or Crista Essig at

The University of North Texas Summer NSF-REU Program

University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine Summer Research Opportunity

The University of Iowa Medical Scientist Training Program is sponsoring an unique summer research opportunity combined MD/PhD Program.  The Iowa Summer Undergraduate MSTP Research Program provides highly motivated undergraduates exposure to the career and training pathway of the physician-scientist.   Participants carry out independent research under the direction of an established mentor in a clinical or basic science department.  The program will run from May 28 - August 2, 2013.  Eligible students are US citizens or permanent residents who will graduate in the 2013-2014 academic year.   Applicants must have had previous research experience.   Selected applicants received a stipend of $4,150 plus lodging and a travel allowance for travel to/from Iowa City.   The application deadline is February 4, 2013.   We encourage you to view our website for further SUMR Program information, including an on-line application. 

West Virginia University Center for Neuroscience Summer Internships

West Virginia University Center for Neuroscience has 12 Summer Undergraduate Research internships.   Accepted students will have the opportunity to participate in an intensive and enjoyable research experience.   The WVU Center for Neuroscience supports broad-based research across over 40 laboratories housed in modern research facilities.   The center offers state-of-the-art technical capabilites and techniques such as genomics, non-linear optical microscopy, transgenic animal and microarray facilities, three-dimensional tissue analysis, and human neuroimaging using high field MRI and combined PET/CT imaging.   The SURI program will run from May 28 - July 29, 2013.   Online applications will be accepted from students currently enrolled at a college or university in the U.S. who have completed their 2nd or 3rd year.  Preference will be givn to those with strong background in biology, neuroscience, physics, chemistry, engineering, or psychology, with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.   Applicants are required to submit their curriculum vitae, official college transcripts, and two letters of recommendation.  Application deadline is February 1, 2013, with the research awards to be announced as early as March 1, 2013.   For more information about the program, please visit:

UT Southwestern Medical Center Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program

The Gerstner Sloan-Kettering Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences Summer Research

The Sloan-Kettering Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences sponsors a 10-week research program for outstanding undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing a career in biomedically related sciences.  (The program begins on the first Monday in June and runs for 10 consecutive weeks.)    Applicants should have a minimum 3.0 GPA and should have completed at least general biology and/or introductory chemistry.   Stipend is $4,000 and housing.  (Four exceptional students will be selected and names "Rubin and Sarah Shaps Scholars".)  Applications will be accepted from undergraduate freshmen, sophomores, or juniors who are contemplating a career in biomedical related sciences.  Deadline for submission of all application materials is February 1.   Applicants will be notified of a decision between March 1 and March 15.  For more information and to apply, please go to: or call 649-888-6639

Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology SUNY Upstate Medical University
