Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 2014 Louis Stoke Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Research Experience

University of Alabama 2014 Undergraduate Research Participation Program (NSF Supported)

The University of Alabama is pleased to announce their 2014 Undergraduate Research Participation (SURP) program, support by the NSF for students (preferably juniors, who will be seniors in the 2014-2015 academic year) who plan to attend graduate school in chemistry or a related field. Each student who is chosen to participate will receive a $5,000 stipend plus on-campus housing in furnished apartment during the 10-week program (May 25 - August 2, 2014). NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU): Molecular and Biochemical Analysis of Proteins, Department of Biochemistry, Purdue University

The Department of Biochemistry at Purdue University is now accepting applications for a NSF sponsored REU program in the summer of 2014. This is a ten week program that runs from May 27 to August 1, 2014. (Please note that program dates cannot be modified.)  Campus housing and round-trip transportation to West Lafayette, IN plus a $5,000 stipend. You must be an undergraduate who has completed at least 4 semesters of college and have at least one semester of college remaining after the summer of 2014. Unviersity of Kansas Undergraduate Summer Program - Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry

The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Kansas offers a ten-week program (May 27 to August 1, 2014) for undergraduate students to participate in paid laboratory research. Students will perform independent research under the supervision of faculty members, applying chemical principles to problems involving drugs and related molecules. Undergraduates who have completed their junior year by the beginning of the summer are encouraged to apply, but highly qualified sophomore students will be considered. NSF's Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Dornsife College of Letters, Arts, & Sciences at Univeristy of Southern California

The University of Southern California's Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences are soliciting applications to their summer undergraduate research program. This is a eight-week (June 15 - August 9, 2014) program and is an opportunity for students to conduct research in residence in their Chemistry Department. Housing, student health insurance, and travel costs are covered by the department and students will also receive a stipend. Villanova University Department of Chemistry's 2014 Summer Research

Each year, the Department of Chemistry offers undergraduate students opportunities to work on an independent research project with a faculty mentor. These are paid positions that are supported through faculty research grants and other funds available to the Department.

I encourage you to meet with Chemistry faculty to discuss research opportunities in their laboratories, both in the summer and during the school year. I also suggest speaking with your classmates and with our graduate students about the research they are doing.

Applications for Summer Undergraduate Research (SUGR) Fellowships (sent to you by email) should be completed with a faculty mentor and returned to the Chemistry office by Friday, March 14, 2014. Awards will be announced by the week of March 31. The number of awards depends on funding available.

In addition to funding summer research students through faculty research grants and the Department, we are offering several competitive fellowships thanks to the Dr. Ronald Magolda Undergraduate Research Fund, the James J. and Ann M. O'Malley Fund for Undergraduate Research, and Anthony J. and Heand Johns Silvestri. Prior research experience is required for both the Magolda and Silvestri awards, while the O’Malley award is for first time researchers or those with little research experience. If you wish to be considered for one of these competitive fellowships, you need to provide an additional brief statement (maximum of 250 words) describing your career objectives and how receiving one of these fellowships will help you attain them. 

 

Villanova Undergraduate Research Fellows Program 2014-15

The Center for Undergraduate Research & Fellowships (CURF) is pleased to announce the tenth annual Call for Proposals for the Villanova Undergraduate Research Fellows (VURF) Program. Undergraduates from all of the Colleges may apply for funding to undertake a scholarly research project with a Faculty Sponsor. Research projects will be conducted during the summer and students funded by the program will receive a stipend of $3,500 for their summer projects.  If you are interested in summer housing, I encourage you to apply at the same time as the Chemistry SUGR Fellowship program as the Department can offer a limited number of room and board awards.

2014 Collegiate Leaders in Environmental Health (CLEH) Internship

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Environmental Health and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (NCEH/ATSDR) are offering a paid 10-week summer internship program for students who are passionate about the environment, interested in human health, and curious about how they are linked.  During the course of the internship, students are introduced to environmental health at the federal level through collaborative projects, experiential learning opportunities, environmental health presentations, journal clubs, field trips, brown bag lunches, and mentoring relationships at NCEH/ATSDR.  Interns will be based at NCEH/ATSDR's Chamblee, Georgia Campus and will be paid a stipend of approximately $600 a week during the course of the program.   Application deadline is January 29, 2014.  Go on our website for application and eligibility requirements:  www.cdc.gov/nceh/cleh.   If you have any questions, pelase email Jay Nielsen or James Gooch at CLEH@cdc.gov
