Nonprofit and Government Career Fair at St. Joseph's University - April 3, 2014 from 10-1:00

Nonprofit and Government Career Fair - Thursday, April 3, 2014 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at St. Joseph's University Athletic Center.   St. Joseph's Career Center will host this even, which is co-sponsored with Villanova University and the Nonprofit Career Fair Consortium.   Past non-profit fairs have attracted 500+ students/alumni from over 40 area colleges and universities.  More than 70 non-profit organizations, representing issues ranging from the arts to human services/education to environmental concerns, have participated each year.  Click below to view the participating organizations to date.

There will be a workshop:  Landing a Job in the Federal Government - 10am - 12pm Hosted by U.S. OPM.  For admittance into the fair, please bring a copy of your resume.

There will be a shuttle from Pike Lot to St. Joseph on the day of the event - approximate times:  Leave Pik Lot - 9:30, 10:30 - 11:30 am and 12:30 pm.   Leave St. Joseph's Athletic Center:  10, 11am, Noon and 1 PM

Innospec Fuel Specialties is looking for soon to be or recent graduates for a full-time entry-level Applications Chemist position in Newark, DE.  This is an entry-level opening with growth potential is available for an Applications Chemist to work for NASDAQ-listed global petroleum additive company with over eighty years of heritage.   The Applications Chemist is responsible for carrying out detailed performance testing on petroleum products using industry test methods.  The exact activities assigned to this position will depend on the qualifications, skill set and experience of the successful candidate.   The successful candidate will perform and/or supervise fuel applications tests, coordinate multiple projects utilizing knowledge of chemistry, raw materials and analysis techniques, write technical reports on testing procedures and results, and provide rapid and professional customer service support, with timely, scientifically robust and commercially-sound responses to enquiries and complaints.   Ideally, candidates should possess the following qualifications and qualities:  BS degree in chemistry preferred; other physical sciences degrees will be considered, ability to effectively communicate internally and externally with customers and scientific associates, strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interface across all functions/teams, sense of urgency to achieve results, adaptive, etc.  If you are interested, please contact Ms. Nicole Valentine (nicole.valentine@innospecinc.com).

Thermo Scientific Pierce Scholarship Program - Fall 2014


Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, is pleased to announce the continuation of the Thermo Scientific Pierce Scholarship Program to help provide educational opportunities for future generations of scientists. In addition to investing in the world’s future scientific endeavors, Thermo Fisher Scientific prides itself on our eco-friendly operations and products, along with working with customers, industry, and the scientific community to advance environmental management and science.

The Thermo Scientific Pierce Scholarship Program for the Fall 2014 semester includes two (2) $10,000 scholarships and four (4) $5,000 scholarships, to be awarded to undergraduate and graduate students with a declared major of biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or a related life-science field. To qualify for the scholarship, students must have a GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and be enrolled in an accredited college for university for the Fall 2014 semester.

In addition to these qualifications, students must also be legal United States residents, meaning that students possessing appropriate Visa status in order to study in the United States are also eligible.

Students may apply for the scholarship through the Thermo Scientific Pierce Scholarship Website. Applications will be accepted until 2:59:59 p.m. CT on August 1, 2014. Each application will be reviewed and evaluated by a scholarship committee and announced to the chosen recipients by August 14, 2014. Chemical Heritage Foundation Trip - April 4th visit


Reminder from Dr. Abby O'Connor, Chemistry Department TCNJ who moderates the TCNJ student Chemists association chapter.    An event is being organized by president, Taylor Maney   This event is a visit to the chemical heritage museum with dinner to follow.   I encourage your students to attend this event as it will be an awesome opportunity to network with other students and chemistry professionals. Our student chapter and local section were awarded a grant for this event and would like to encourage local area student chapters to collaborate on future events. The CHF visit, alone, is free! We already have many students and some local section members interested, but we need our final count soon so we may reserve our space at the restaurant.
